Laser Gum Tissue Recontouring

The use of lasers in cosmetic dentistry has become quite common among trained cosmetic dentists. For a smile to be its most beautiful, teeth must line up evenly along the gumline, with just the right amount of gum showing. Perfecting, recontouring and evening can all be done quickly with the use of a laser. This treatment is ideal for people who feel their smiles are too “gummy.”

A laser can also be used to perform a gingivectomy. When a tooth has decay that goes below the gumline, the laser can remove the excess tissue, allowing the dentist to remove the decay, and restore the tooth. Sometimes people require gingivectomies due to side effects from certain medications and/or poor oral hygiene.
